Time is the last thing we think about, when we are working on something or enjoying a break, so it is quite difficult to notice how it flies by. If you want to know how long it takes to perform a certain task or to chat with a friend, you can use Free Time Tracker. It provides accurate readings on how much time you spend with specific applications and it allows you to generate reports.

The application's name should make it obvious that you don't have to pay for it. Moreover, you don't have to install it. Its executable is only 1.25 MB, so you can download and run the application in a few moments. It works on all Windows platforms, from Win 7 to Win 98 and its system requirements are very low.

All you have to do is run Free Time Tracker, let it work in the background and continue your work as usual. The software monitors all your processes, from explorer.exe to any other application. They are listed on the interface, along with their own timers, usage percentages and categories. Essentially, the program will time all processes separately, when you activate their windows. If an application's window becomes active, Free Time Tracker will time the application, until you select a different window.

Free Time Tracker comes with its own database, which contains a huge number of frequently used applications. They are organized in different categories, like chat, web, email, leisure, work, idle and system utilities. You may add your own applications and categories, in the same database, if the program does not include certain programs or games. It is also possible to set up an idle timeout. If the program does not detect any human activity, for longer than your set period of time, it will start timing another category.

You may generate a report on a separate window. It consists of a pie chart, which illustrates the usage of your applications, by category. If you want to save these statistics, for future reference, you can export the entire chart, as a CSV file.

Pros

The software keeps track of the time you spend with each application. It times individual processes separately and it allows you to generate reports. Free Time Tracker's database includes numerous applications, which are neatly categorized. The best part is that you can run the application right away, without going through an installation process.

Cons

Besides the pie chart, you can not generate other types of reports. Free Time Tracker is an excellent choice, if you are looking for an efficient way of increasing your productivity. It provides you with detailed statistics on the time you spend working with specific applications.
